RHEDA CITY for Modern Urban Transit in Finland’s Third-Largest City
For Tampere’s new tram system, RAILONE supplied a total of 13,200 RHEDA CITY bi-block sleepers between 2016 and 2021 and supported the construction of the demanding urban route with planning and supervision services.
In November 2016, Tampere City Council approved the construction of Finland’s first standard-gauge tram line, with a total length of 17.6 km. Located 160 km north of Helsinki, Tampere introduced the light rail system to provide modern infrastructure for its 240,000 residents. The tram project aims to improve transport for commuters by enhancing connections and services to key destinations throughout the city.
Construction of Phase A began in 2016, and the line entered service in August 2021. RAILONE also supported the supervision of track installation and construction work. In addition to installing track systems with damping mats to reduce vibration in urban areas, the project team had to overcome challenging climatic conditions.
