RHEDA CITY for a Modern Light Rail System in the Greater Toronto Area
For the Hurontario LRT, also known as the Hazel McCallion Line, in Ontario, RAILONE supplied the RHEDA CITY ballastless track system and light rail sleepers for the new 18 km line between 2021 and 2024.
The Hurontario Light Rail Transit project forms part of the Urban Transit expansion in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. The new 18 km light rail line with 19 stops connects key urban growth centres along Hurontario Street and provides direct connections to existing transport systems such as GO Transit and the Mississauga Transitway.
The Hazel McCallion Line runs largely along a dedicated alignment on the region’s busiest road and will provide a reliable, high-performance and environmentally friendly mobility solution. The RHEDA CITY ballastless track system was selected for the project, making this the second application of the system in Canada following REM Montréal.
The project also marked the first installation of the RAILONE UTT 17 light rail sleeper, resulting in the approval of this sleeper solution for the North American market. The UTT 17 sleeper is designed for the tram stabling facility, which was constructed using ballasted track.
