Double Performance: RHEDA 2000® Combines Heavy Haul and High-Speed Rail
In summer 2022, RAILONE completed the installation of 7,120 m of RHEDA 2000® in the strategically important Etihad tunnels in the UAE, designed for both heavy haul and high-speed rail operations.
Marking the first use of the proven RHEDA 2000® system on the Arabian Peninsula, RAILONE completed the installation in the nine Etihad tunnels. The railway line forms part of a freight corridor linking the Arab states along the Persian Gulf and is of major strategic importance to the United Arab Emirates, particularly as an alternative transport route in the event of geopolitical tensions around the Strait of Hormuz.
The line is designed as a combined solution for heavy haul transport with an axle load of 36 metric tons at 120 km/h and high-speed rail with an axle load of 22.5 metric tons at speeds of up to 200 km/h. The sleepers, including special elements for the transition zones, were manufactured at the Ha’il plant in Saudi Arabia.
