Dodam–Youngcheon, South Korea: RHEDA 2000® Reduced Journey Times from More Than Six Hours to Just 1.5 Hours
As part of the modernisation of South Korea’s historic Central Line between Seoul and Gyeongju, RAILONE supplied the RHEDA 2000® system for the 145.1 km route between 2013 and 2024.
The project was initiated to modernise the old Central Line from Seoul to Gyeongju in south-eastern Korea. The Central Line is the country’s second-oldest cross-country railway connection. The reconstructed section has a total length of 145.1 km and is entirely equipped with the RHEDA 2000® system.
The RHEDA 2000® ballastless track solution was selected for its excellent cost-performance ratio and high degree of flexibility. This flexibility enables a highly efficient installation process with simple, reproducible steps for both manual and automated installation methods.
The system also offers a long service life and low maintenance requirements while meeting the highest quality standards. Local production capabilities can also be used to optimum effect. The aim of the route upgrade is to make rail travel faster and more convenient for passengers.
Construction began in November 2013 and was scheduled for completion in December 2024. Following completion, the journey time between Seoul and Gyeongju was expected to be reduced from 6 hours and 30 minutes to approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes.
