EFFICIENT NOISE REDUCTION ON THE NEW COLOGNE–SIEGBURG HIGH-SPEED LINE
Between 2001 and 2002, RAILONE planned, manufactured and installed RAILONE Noise Absorbers along approximately 21 km of Section C of the new Cologne–Siegburg high-speed line.
A key noise mitigation measure using RAILONE’s innovative solution was implemented on approximately 21 km of double-track line within the roughly 50-kilometre section extending southwards from Cologne–Siegburg. RAILONE Noise Absorbers were installed on the RHEDA 2000® ballastless track system to reduce the higher noise emissions compared with ballasted track and achieve equivalent acoustic performance.
As the general contractor, RAILONE was responsible for planning and design adaptations, acoustic verification and approval, production at a plant close to the construction site, logistics and installation.
All components were delivered by rail using a just-in-time logistics concept involving approximately 30 railway wagons. Installation was carried out directly from the wagons alongside the ongoing track construction work. A particular challenge was the precise coordination with simultaneous signalling, control and overhead line work performed by other contractors.
